Uzbekistan Automobile Market: Q1 2025 Results

In the first quarter of 2025, 75.9 thousand new passenger cars were sold in the Uzbek automobile market, which is 12% lower than in the same period in 2024.

At the same time, it should be noted that in March of this year, the first signs of stabilization of sales in the new car market appeared. For the first time since the beginning of the year, an increase in sales of new passenger cars was recorded: a little more than 25 thousand units were sold, which is 2.5% more than in March of last year. This result was the first positive signal after two months of decline - in January, the decrease in sales of new cars amounted to -28.5%, and in February -7.2%.

Chevrolet brand retains leadership

The Chevrolet brand remains the absolute leader in the Uzbek automobile market. In March 2025, its share accounted for 82.2% of sales (20,751 units), but this is lower than the previous year's level (88.1%). The share also decreased by the end of the quarter: from 89.3% in 2024 to 82.0% in 2025.

The most popular model remains the Chevrolet Cobalt - 8,574 cars were sold in March (+19% compared to March 2024). Next in line is the Chevrolet Tracker, which showed a significant increase in its performance by 90% - up to 3,873 units due to installment payments. However, the Tracker shows a 26% year-on-year decline at the end of the quarter.

In particular, the sharp drop in sales of Chevrolet Damas in March - by -51%, and for the quarter - by -31%. At the same time, according to the UzAuto Savdo portal, more than 2 thousand cars of this model are available for sale.

Fixed payment did not become a growth factor

In March 2025, UzAuto Motors launched a fixed payment program for popular models - Tracker and Onix. However, despite the expected increase in sales, the effect was moderate. In March, compared to February, Tracker sales increased from 1.47 thousand to 3.4 thousand units, and Onix from 0.95 thousand to 1.95 thousand units.

Given that at the time of preparation of the information material there were more than 5 thousand Trackers and more than 5.1 thousand Onixs in warehouses, it becomes clear that solvent demand remains limited.

Increased interest in foreign and Chinese brands

Among foreign cars, Kia is confidently leading - 1,741 cars were sold in March (+64 percent compared to March 2024), and according to the results of the quarter, the growth compared to the same period last year was +55 percent. The Kia Sonet model made a special contribution to these indicators - 1,235 units were sold in a month and almost 4,000 units in a quarter.

Following Kia, Chinese brands are also strengthening their positions:

BYD: +9 percent in March, +23 percent for the quarter (1,183 and 4,045 units, respectively)

Haval: +231 percent in March, +283 percent for the quarter (460 and 1,410 units).

Chery also maintains stable indicators (41 percent in March), and sales volumes for the quarter almost fully correspond to last year's results.

Potential risks for the automotive industry

Global economic processes, including tariff conflicts and, in this regard, a possible recession of the world economy Uzbekistan's automotive industry poses a great threat to. The introduction of trade barriers against a number of countries at the initiative of the United States may lead to a global increase in the cost of components, raw materials and materials, which, in turn, will affect the cost and final price of cars around the world.

In the face of such threats, it is especially important to closely monitor the situation in the global and domestic markets of Uzbekistan, and to take timely measures to support the local automaker in order to ensure the stability and competitiveness of the national automotive industry.
